As the Deputy Program Coordinator Ben is in charge of external and internal operations of CCT, including coordinating with communities and program implementation. And takes over the program director’s responsibilities when JP is not around. His background in Anthropology and Sociology provides the team with a humanistic perspective which makes our programs much more holistic addressing both man and the environment. As a board member of the CCT he was also one of the people responsible for the organizations creation. Ben is also involved as the lead project manager in the Green Libraries project of the CCT.
The only member of the team who does not hail from the Cordillera Region, he is a Bicolano but with the heart of a Cordilleran. He finished his degree in BA Social Sciences majoring in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of the Philippines and is currently a member of the UP Baguio, College of Social Sciences Faculty. He is also one of the current coordinators for the University’s Pahinungod Program which sends out volunteer teachers to rural schools all across the country. Together with JP and Francis Alipio, Ben was also a member of the Central Cordillera Traverse Expedition to map out the trails and look into the state of the Cordillera people and environment. He provided the sociological and anthropological perspective for the expedition.
Ben like most of the members of CCT is also an avid outdoorsman and much of his free time is spent backpacking or mountain biking in the areas where we work. |
