Francis is in charge of the CCT’s programs that deal with human health as influenced by the state of the local environment. As a board member of the CCT he was also one of the people responsible for the organizations creation. Francis is a graduate of nursing from Pines City Colleges in Baguio City and has had experience practicing in different rural hospitals in the Cordillera region as well as in the lowlands. His expertise in human health proves invaluable in providing a perspective at environmental and human development that takes a look at ecological factors that affect human health and creating solutions to problems which arise from a degrading environmental system. Francis is an Ibaloi who grew up in the fertile Valley of La Trinidad in the Benguet province of the Cordillera. Together with Reuben Muni and JP Alipio, Francis walked through 500 kilometers of mountain trails during the Cordillera Traverse expedition in 2005 that resulted in the Central Cordillera People and Environment report now being used in the different municipalities in the region. As a member of the expedition team Francis or “Iko” as he is fondly called acted in his capacity as a trained health professional providing emergency medical services for the expedition team as well as providing the unique perspective into human health in the mountain region. Francis like most members of the team is also an avid trekker and has trekked around most trails found in the Cordillera region. |
