Environmental Education

Green Libraries is a project which puts up a shelf of environmental books from K-12 to adult literature in the different villages found along the central cordillera trail. We believe that access to resources and materials on the environment and its sustainable use is important to build education, awareness and expand the horizons of local communities and the future generation of environmental keepers found within the Cordillera Mountains.

The green libraries will be composed of books that will be contextual to local situations as well as those that expand horizons outside of the community into the global environment. We believe that although there is a need for local knowledge to be utilized communities must also be aware of global trends in the environment as they are placed in an ever expanding world with no boundaries and ecological systems and new situations such as climate change and natural disasters are environmental problems on a much larger scale.

· Empowering the next generation of environmental keepers

· Providing access to information and current events on the environment both locally and globally

· Broadening horizons and providing avenues for learning for local communities

· Improving children’s literacy and intellectual development
