Volunteer Opportunities

If you are a health professional interested in making a difference in the lives of the people where the Kristus Center works, arrangements can be made for short-term (2-6 weeks) voluntary service so that your skills and talents will be engaged in practical, challenging and exciting ways.

Currently, you may choose to serve at Yagaum Rural Hospital in Papua New Guinea, the Mugil Health Clinic in Papua New Guinea, or Abatan Rural Hospital in the Philippines. All three of these health care facilities serve tribal people who are in urgent need of a broad range of medical, dental, surgical and nursing care. Help is also needed in the areas of community epidemiology and public health, social work (substance abuse and mental health) and developmental disabilities. Your voluntary service will have a direct impact on the health and wellness of others.

Short-term voluntary service is not for the faint of heart.
The work will be challenging and rigorous; expect the unexpected. It requires physical stamina, emotional maturity and spiritual self-awareness. Cross-cultural experiences are simultaneously enriching yet exhausting. Nevertheless, if you feel motivated to serve in this capacity and are willing to risk transforming your life in unanticipated ways, then please contact us and we will work together to best determine your short-term volunteer placement.

If you choose to volunteer, one of the many benefits that will await you is an opportunity to explore local cultures through authentic community tourism. Various programs and activities to augment your volunteer service can be tailor-made to meet your personal goals - whether they include village immersion, eco-tourism, wild life treks or sacred journeys. All of these activities - designed with you as the central focus – will highlight local cultures and promote community development.
